Advanced Workshop 2009 - "Garcia"

The One Race Global Film Foundation is pleased to announce the completion of its first Advanced Production Workshop. Sixteen graduates of the ORGFF’s Summer Intensive Institute participated in a week-long production heavy workshop led by Program Director Irving Vincent and Dominican film director/producer Juan Basanta.  Students were introduced to film theory and analysis during lectures and camera exercises, with instruction from industry professionals like cinematographer Claudio Chea (Tropico de Sangre, El Cantante, Crossover Dreams), director/editor Raul Marchand (Manuela y Manuel, El Cantante), and music video and commercials director Kacho Lopez (Daddy Yankee).

The sixteen students worked in crews of four and were given a copy of the script “Garcia,” a short narrative written and developed especially for this workshop.  Each crew shot one scene using state of the art HD cameras and equipment - rotating the roles of director, cinematographer, assistant camera, and producer.  After two days of shooting, students paired off and edited their own version of the scene - with an emphasis on the importance of post-production in the storytelling process.

The Advanced Production Workshop successfully reinforced the filmmaking principles and practices introduced in the Summer Intensive Institute and motivated the students to continue developing their own projects and craft.
