THE STUDENTS OF THE ORF SUMMER INTENSIVE 2009
We are pleased to introduce you to the students of the ORF Summer Intensive 2009. Each year, we are consistently impressed by the creativity and tenacity of our students and this year will be no exception. We are particularly excited to be able to sponsor four students from Haiti through a ground-breaking collaboration with Wyclef Jean's Yele Haiti, the One Race Global Film Foundation and President Leonel Fernandez' government in the Dominican Republic.
Eager to learn film production, Blandish is participating as a Haitian exchange student in Primera Toma 2009. She has technical experience in sound and lighting, and has acted in a film as well. Blandish is interested in learning editing and audio, and wants to produce her own videos.
An aspiring auteur, Deivis has developed and produced short music videos which he distributes through the internet. He is eager to direct, edit, and develop his own scripts.
Eager to learn film production, Foreste is participating as a Haitian exchange student in Primera Toma 2009, with the hopes of one day becoming a videographer. She has been on the stage numerous times and actively participates in a Haitian theatre troupe. She would like to learn script writing and editing as well.
The youngest student of Primera Toma 2009, Guillermo studies at the Colegio Dominican de la Salle. At 15, he has extended knowledge of animation and Adobe After Effects, which he uses to create his own abstract multimedia projects. He likes graphic design but wants to learn how to edit video.
Although Jonathon studies International Relations, one of his passions is acting, and has performed on stage numerous times. Although Jonathon has no experience in film production, he is eager to learn the basics of cinematography.
Jose aspires to make quality films about Dominican culture. Eager to learn film production, he has taught Adobe Premiere Pro. His interests are in cinematography and video production.
Judin is participating as a Haitian exchange student in Primera Toma 2009. An avid artist, he uses his drawings and paintings as a way to produce socially aware content. Judin hopes to learn all aspects of film and TV production and one day work in the film industry.
A recent graduate of the mass media department at PUCAMM, Karen has worked on various productions as an editor, and has experience with Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro.
Katiuska is no stranger to film and television production; her father is an established TV producer in the Dominican Republic. She has worked as an assistant on various TV productions and would like to expand her knowledge of film producing.
Nelson is an enthusiastic actor who wishes to learn more about film production from behind the lens. He wishes to produce his own films and will soon be expanding his training abroad.
Raysa Montes de Oca
Raysa is currently a student at the Club Mauricio Baez and works as an assistant at Telecentro, a popular TV channel in the Dominican Republic. She wants to expand her knowledge of TV production and hopes to get an understanding of all the production elements of the film industry.
Robert hosts a local radio variety show and is eager to start a career in film production. In five years, he hopes to be a director, but in the mean time, is focusing on producing and hosting his upcoming TV variety show.
Sophonie is participating as a Haitian exchange student in Primera Toma 2009. Although she has no experience in film or television production, she would like to learn the basics of cinematography and editing. Sophonie hopes to learn fundamentals that she could one day share with the youth of Haiti.
Violeta is an undergraduate communications major who has experience producing films. She aspires to direct socially conscious films to promote music. In her spare time, she plays the violin in the National Symphonic Orchestra in the DR.
Watson currently works for the GFDD/FUNGLODE as a camera technician and production assistant. Although very well versed in the technical aspects of production, Watson wants to learn how to develop his own creativity and produce.
Dilenia is a student at UASD and works for the Institute of Professional Law Studies, where she coordinates multimedia advertisements for the Institute. She has produced documentaries, educational videos, and socially-aware content.
Kelvin is a composer, hoping to incorporate his abilities into films by creating original scores and sound editing. He currently takes cinema studies courses and has a background in theater and instrumental music.
