As soon as we heard about the earthquake in Haiti, we flew to our base of operations in Santo Domingo to begin searching for our four missing students.  In the agonizing waiting process, we realized we could fulfill a need that would save the lives of children orphaned by the quake.

According to CNN, there are over 300,000 children under the age of 2 who are in desperate need of nutritional support.  90% of the schools in Port-au-Prince have been completely destroyed and Haiti has already had to evacuate over 350 orphans.  The orphans who have been left behind are the ones who need our help the most.

Due to hampered food distribution by the Red Cross and UN, children are dying unnecessarily.  Based on our on-the-ground assessment, the quickest way to get formula to them is through a grassroots delivery system we created.

We have brokered a special deal with Mead Johnson, a direct distributor of Enfamil baby formula in the Dominican Republic, allowing us to purchase a case of 24 canisters of baby formula at the significantly discounted cost of $150.  The system we devised employs our ORF students to drive across the border and personally guarantee delivery to Haitian orphanages. We have already successfully shipped over 100 cases and additional cases go out everyday.

It will take generations for Haiti to re-build and therefore the survival of these innocent children is critical to the future of this country.   Your generous support is vital to the success of this operation.  All contributions are tax deductible.

On January 26, 2010, we were happily reunited with our students in Haiti.  Operation Baby Formula will continue the legacy established by these four courageous young Haitians.
